Sunflower fields near me for family photos. Our family photo shoot with NC photographer Yasmin Leonard. Visit her site for the best places to take family pictures in North Carolina and book a photo session.
I know I say this every single time we shoot with Yasmin, but ya’ll… these are my FAVORITE pictures of us. My only regrets in life are that I didn’t meet Yasmin when my first child was born. I wish I had professional pictures of Brady from the moment he was born and through the first few years.
We shot these pictures in a sunflower field in Greensboro, just before sunset. The field was beautiful and the sun was perfect. That golden hour lighting is simply the best when it comes to capturing sunlight and photos outdoors. And thankfully my babies were in a good mood and excited at the sight of endless rows of tall sunflowers taller than them.
Yasmin is amazing at making you feel comfortable while shooting. I’ll admit, I’m not great at posing and I don’t love having my picture taken. But as a blogger, it’s kind of part of the job for me. Yasmin is so good at getting you to break out of the stiff and awkward feeling and settle into a calm, carefree state.
I love that she’s able to capture us in such a natural way. The big laughs, the little grins. The flash of happy that spreads across your face when you look at your littles. The spark in a five-year-old’s eye and the pure joy that babies radiate.
My sweet Beckham. He’s got four teeth and he’s like a happy little chipmunk on the hunt for anything he can chew on. He’s crawling all over the place. He’s happy from the moment he wakes up and he giggles to himself all day like he knows something funny and we don’t. That little face changes my whole mood instantly. It’s hard not to smile when you look at him.
And my first baby! It gets harder and harder to catch that smile in photos. He’s got all kinds of opinions and he gets more and more independent every day. It makes me cling to every hug a little tighter because I feel him growing up. Every eskimo kiss I can steal, every hand hold feels like it gets closer and closer to the last one ever. My mama heart can’t handle it.
Family Photo Shoot
I used to think couples photos were a bit silly outside of engagement photos. And then we had kids and suddenly one of us was always missing from our family pictures. I kid my husband that most of my Instagram feed looks like the adventures of a single dad. Or you have those gems where you pass the camera to a stranger and end up with one of you with half a head. Or one person is trying to wrangle a wiggly baby and the other is bribing a stubborn child who refuses to smile.
So I really appreciate these pics of just the two of us. I was surprised, we don’t look nearly as tired and stressed as we feel, lol!
Now I just have to decide which of these to frame and hang. Ya’ll help me out and tell me which is your favorite in the comments. Scroll down to see more from our shoot.

Photos with Santa
This year she’s adding a special photos with Santa session that I can’t wait for. It’ll be a full-on Santa experience. If you want to capture the magic of Christmas and skip the cheesy photos with Santa for something your kids will always remember, this is it friends.
