It’s been even busier than usual around here the past few weeks. Getting ready for the holidays while still handling our everyday list of things to do, well it gets a little crazy. Add to all of that the fact that it’s cold and flu season and I’m on high alert to stay on top of my health so I can power through to the New Year. Taking care of YOU should be your top priority, especially when you’ve got littles that need you to be on top of your game. You shouldn’t use this as an excuse. If it wasn’t for a friend of mine mentioning how she looked into something like to help her reduce her stress and anxiety levels, I don’t think I would have thought about my health as much, even though I know how important it is. From now on, I will take more time for myself, as there’s only one of me. Additionally, a good mind & body balance is the key to getting through the holiday hustle.

So what’s the best way to be sure you’re taking great care of your health?

Start with a good multi-vitamin. Getting proper nutrition is the key to giving your body all the nutrients and energy you need. A multi-vitamin will help ensure your meeting the needs that might be lacking in your everyday diet. I like Nature Made®vitamins, the adult gummies multi for women tastes great and it’s got Omega-3s. I pick them up at Walmart, they have everyday low prices so it’s easy to stock up and save instead of waiting for them to go on sale. I also recently added taking probiotics to my morning routine to help support healthy digestive balance. I’ve definitely noticed a change in the way I feel since taking the Nature Made® probiotics every day. It’s amazing how much better you feel when your body is happy and on the right track.

Exercise. I know, I know! Believe me, when I start to get overwhelmed exercise is the first thing to get knocked down the list. But then after a few weeks of not exercising I notice a big shift in my energy. I feel like a slug, slow and squishy! Even if it’s just a few minutes, get outside and go for a walk or a run. Do some push-ups and jumping jacks, sneak in some squats while you’re brushing your teeth. It will keep you feeling stronger and more confident, and keep those holiday pounds from pushing the scale up too.

Get plenty of rest. Yes, I know again! What’s sleep, you say. Oh, that thing you traded in when they handed you you’re first born child. Mom life means sacrificing sleep, and just like exercise, it’s also the first thing I start to neglect when I’m overloaded. And then after a few days I turn into a cranky monster with a bad attitude and bags under my eyes. You need sleep, make sure you are getting enough to keep your mind and body happy.

Be mindful. Last, but definitely not least, practicing mindfulness will help you find that mind & body balance that’s essential to living a happier, healthier life. There are so many ways to be more mindful, big and small. You can practice yoga or set aside time each day to meditate. Or you can simply work a few moments of mindfulness into your daily routine. I set an alert on my phone to remind me to practice being mindful at certain times of the day. In the morning, I make sure I have a few minutes of quiet time to myself to set my intentions for the day. I take a mini break every afternoon to take a walk and think about the things I’m most grateful for in my life, big and small. Even on a bad day reminding myself that I have my health, my family, my home… it’s a simple act that resets my mood. And at night before bed I practice a few breathing exercises to calm my body and mind and unwind.
