Newborn stuff and new mom essentials to help you survive and thrive from delivery through the first few months.

We are all about all things baby as we get ready for our little guy to make his debut in a few months. It’s amazing how quickly this pregnancy has gone by. I can’t believe we’re already in the third trimester! Now that we’re getting closer to our due date I’ve really been focusing on making sure we’ve got our check lists of baby essentials and all our newborn care needs covered.

Self-care is something all mamas need to take time for. Whether it’s getting a monthly massage or simply making your home a little cozier, finding ways to incorporate stress-relief into your everyday should be a priority. My friend Tabitha recently shared a great list of 15 Essential Oil Recipes that I love. I can’t wait to try them out in our home diffuser.

New Mom Self Care

First, let’s talk about taking care of yourself. Because you have to take care of you if you’re gonna be a good mama. It’s so easy to get lost in the overwhelm of all the things your new baby needs and put yourself on the back burner. I learned this the hard way with my first. After months of neglect I reached a place of complete exhaustion! This time around I’m really focusing on what’s best for me and baby, inside and out.

My skin tends to go a little crazy with pregnancy. I definitely have issues with dryness and dullness. Add on the lack of sleep that comes with bringing home a new baby and the wrinkles and fine lines start to appear. I’ve recently incorporated a new product into my skincare routine to help with anti-aging. LiftActiv Vitamin C Serum: Brightening Skin Corrector is clinically proven to brighten and firm skin in just 10 days. It’s dermatologist grade and contains hyaluronic acid and 15% pure vitamin C.

Breast Feeding and Nursing Products

Let’s talk about nursing! I had so many struggles with breast feeding the first go around, many due to being too nervous as a new mom to ask the proper questions and get help. This time I plan to use all of the breastfeeding tips I’ve learned from other mamas and also take advantage of the lactation consultant guidance after delivery. Following my c-section I felt so overwhelmed and a bit out of sorts so when I first tried breastfeeding my son I was unaware I was doing it all wrong. He latched improperly and it was so painful, but I just thought “this must be how it goes the first time” and suffered through.

I wish I had been more open to asking for help those first few weeks. Thankfully, the wonderful thing about becoming a mom is that you are instantly welcomed into this amazing circle of support. Since then I’ve learned so much about all the things that help make nursing a little easier.

I was just talking to a friend of mine who went through a tough time breastfeeding. She battles chronic panic so has take prescription opioids for pain relief. Her doctor even recommended for her to go on an opiate detox while pregnant. Some opioid molecules, such as those found in codeine, hydrocodone, and oxycodone, can be passed on in breastmilk, and they can be life-threatening to a baby. Ultimately, if you want to breastfeed your baby, it’s so important to be extra careful and always ask your doctor for advice.
