Planning a fun day trip with a toddler can be tough, you never know what mood they’ll be in or when the tantrums are gonna takeover. But there’s one thing that never fails to excite and entertain my child: animals. Kids love animals! Farm animals, zoo animals, aquariums… they are all sure fire places to take your child that they’ll enjoy. Finishing off our summer bucket list, we decided to venture out to the Maryland Zoo in Baltimore and monkey around for the day.
The Maryland Zoo in Baltimore is the third oldest zoo in the United States. Established by the Maryland state legislature in 1876 the zoo is celebrating 140 years this year. Spread out over 135 plus acres, the zoo is home to over 200 species.
I was impressed with how expansive the zoo is and how well maintained all the exhibits are. We saw a whole array of animals, from blue billed ducks in the bog to llamas hanging out in the barnyard… and lions and tigers and bears ofcourse!
We explored caves with bats and snakes, walked through tunnels where otters swam above us. One of our favorite exhibits was the penguins. Check out my video of Brady playing with a friendly penguin swimming by.
The Maryland Zoo is a proud member of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA). In celebration of the excitement and joy these facilities bring to families the AZA has teamed up with Frito-Lay for the second annual Frito-Lay 2 Go campaign. FL2Go offers a free kid’s pass to participating facilities when you purchase a specially marked variety pack.
- Look for the FL2Go snack bags featuring a tiger, panda, monkey, elephant or penguin
- Visit AZA.Frito-Lay.com to upload a photo of your receipt for proof of purchase and find your local participating AZA facility.

*Note: Offer is for visits Monday thru Friday until 10/20/2016
Brady was kind enough to offer our giraffe friends his snacks. They seemed pretty interested in taking him up on his Cheetos offer.
For over a century, AZA has been a leader is conservation education, providing local areas with first-hand science and environmental education opportunities, while also working to save endangered species through their Saving Animals From Extinction (SAFE) program. This program is supported by visitors just like you, AZA members, and partners like Frito-Lay.
