Baby it’s cold outside! We just had our first snowfall, something that rarely happens in North Carolina in December. There’s a blanket of snow on the ground and while it’s pretty magical to see, it’s chilly outside. Cold weather can do more than just nip at your nose, it can cause dry skin and irritation. It’s important to take extra special care of your skin during the winter months to avoid dealing with skin woes that leave you uncomfortable.
I’ve got a few tips to share with you guys on how to care for your skin in this weather:
Your skin needs a little extra TLC this time of year so it’s important to moisturize daily. Some areas may be prone to dryness and irritation more than normal. Make sure you pay extra attention to knees, elbows, hands and neck. Carry a good hand lotion with you to keep your hands moisturized during the day. Use a lip balm to help protect lips from drying and cracking.
One of the best ways to protect skin from the cold weather is by covering up before you head outside. A scarf, gloves and a knit hat can keep your hands, neck and ears from feeling the harsh sting of winter weather. It can also protect your skin from drying and chapping too, so bundle up!
My underarm area is one of the first spots I start to feel the effects of winter weather and dry skin. That’s why I love using Dove Advanced Care Antiperspirant. Dove Advanced Care provides 48-hour odor and wetness protection, plus added skin care benefits for softer, smoother underarms. It keeps my skin hydrated and protected to help alleviate irritation. Dove Dermatologist, Dr. Alicia Barba notes that the constant rubbing of rough fabrics (like textured sweaters and shirts) can irritate the skin, including the underarm area, and Dove Advanced care can help.
Dr. Barba has a few more great tips for caring for your skin in the winter months as well. She recommends following a bedtime routine that will hydrate and protect your skin. Wash your face, apply retinol and then a moisturizer.
Dr. Barba also notes that it’s important to use sunscreen for all seasons. Your skin is still exposed to harmful UV rays even in the winter so it’s important to use sunscreen daily.
