One of my resolutions for this year is to read more. I love reading, it’s one of my favorite ways to relax. Curling up with a good book is something that really settles my mind and makes me happy. So I’m committing to getting back into the habit of reading before bed and whenever I can make time for myself.
The first selection on my list of books to read in 2020: The Country Guesthouse by Robyn Carr. I’m a sucker for sweet romance reads, the kind you can completely escape into and lose track of time.
When I read the summary for this story I knew it would be a good one! Robyn Carr is a #1 New York Times bestselling author. She’s written over 50 novels, including the critically acclaimed Virgin River novels that Netflix recently turned into a series.
The Country Guesthouse is an inspiring and emotional story that delivers romance, mystery and a heartwarming look at the depths of a mother’s love. Even when the bond isn’t a biological one.
After Hannah loses her best friend suddenly, she becomes guardian to her son, a five-year-old named Noah. They rent a country house in Colorado so they can get to know each other. Soon they meet Owen and their stories begin to intertwine as they sort their grief and face challenges together.
The characters are complex and so are their stories. Their lives are complicated, but relatable. I felt such a range of emotions, from hope and joy to sadness and angst. I like that the author shares contemporary issues in a way that’s engaging and seamless to the story and the characters involved. It’s a romance that tugs at your heartstrings but also delivers a dose of hope, even in the heavy moments.
I love books that draw me into the characters lives so well that I feel like I’m right in the middle of their drama. This one does exactly that. I laughed, I cried. I celebrated the happy moments and grieved the sad ones. It’s such a great story I didn’t want it to end.
You’ll love The Country Guesthouse! It’s one of the best books for women I’ve read in awhile. The perfect read to curl up with this winter.
