Ideas and inspo for what fall flowers for pots to plant to give your front porch an autumn glow up!
Summer was a hot one! But even so, if you’re like me, you might be feeling a little blue watching your summer blooms begin to fade as fall approaches. But, there’s no time to sulk over summer when the BEST season of the year is approaching. Yes, I’m talking about FALL. Fall isn’t just about pumpkin spice lattes and cozy scarves. It’s also a prime time to get our porches all dressed up in autumn’s finest florals.
Sharing 13 of my favorite fall flowers to perk up those planters and make your porch the envy of the neighborhood.
Fall Flowers for Pots
- Mums (Chrysanthemums): These are the classic go-tos for fall. Their vibrant yellows, oranges, and purples shout “autumn” like nothing else.
- Pansies: Don’t let their delicate look fool you. Pansies are tough cookies and thrive in the cooler fall weather.
- Ornamental Peppers: Spice up your porch! No, seriously. These little beauties come in a range of fiery colors and they’re so darn cute.
- Asters: With their star-shaped blooms, asters give a burst of color in shades of purple, pink, and white.
- Ornamental Kale: Add a touch of the unexpected with ornamental kale. Their rosette shape and purples and greens are so visually interesting.
- Goldenrod: These bright yellow flowers are not just stunning, but they’re also great for pollinators!
- Celosia: Its velvety, flame-like plumes come in reds, oranges, and yellows. Talk about setting your planters on fire (metaphorically speaking)!
- Heuchera: Also known as Coral Bells, their foliage is the real star here. They offer a lovely palette of colors from deep purples to lime greens.
- Rudbeckia (Black-Eyed Susan): These golden yellow blooms with their signature black centers are sunny and inviting.
- Sedum (Stonecrop): As the season progresses, sedum’s colors intensify. They’re low maintenance and have a unique, almost succulent-like appearance.
- Helenium: These are also known as “sneezeweed” (don’t worry, they don’t make you sneeze). Their red, orange, and yellow daisy-like flowers are a fall favorite.
- Violas: Think of them as pansies’ little sisters. Smaller but just as colorful and charming.
- Grasses: Okay, not a flower, but hear me out. Ornamental grasses like fountain grass or switchgrass add height, texture, and a lovely sway when the autumn breezes come through.
Now, I challenge you to pick a few (or heck, all of them) and give your porch that autumnal glow-up. Trust me, every time you step out your front door, you’ll be greeted by a heartwarming fall spectacle.
