The Festival of Spring at Burnside Farms in Haymarket VA was one of our favorite events last spring! We took some gorgeous pics, picked beautiful flowers and then had a little picnic to celebrate our perfect day trip. So I was pretty excited to get out there to see all the pretty tulips and snap some pics of B, and it did not disappoint!

The weather was absolutely perfect and the fields were all in bloom, beautiful rows of bright colors and flowers everywhere. B picked out a basket and we made our way to pick a few. Walking out we explained to him that it was very important to be careful where you walked and to stay on the path so as not to stomp the flowers. I was a little worried, but he was a very good listener and worked his way down the rows, careful of where he stepped. We showed him how to pull the tulip up from the ground and he loved picking out his favorites, squatting down and pulling with his “superhero muscles.”

After he had picked out all his favorites headed over to the wooden shoe platform for some fun. This was one of his favorite parts last year, he had so much fun trying on the wooden clogs. He found a pair and popped his little feet in and stomped up a storm. I joined him for a little while and we held hands and tried on lots of pretty painted shoes, big and small.

All that dancing worked up a thirst so we made our way to the tented area, wrapped up our flowers and grabbed a drink and some popcorn to munch on. Inside they have lots of pretty jars and vases for your blooms and a few small gifts. And they have baby chicks! Of course B was ecstatic to see the baby chickies and even happier when he got to hold one.

No way we were gonna make it out of the farm without letting him jump on the giant jumping pillow they have. He had a blast running back and forth and bouncing all around. It was just the thing to wear out that last little bit of energy too. Back in the car he was asleep by the time we pulled on to the main road.

If you are looking for a fun afternoon activity for kids or a really pretty place to take pics, the Burnside Farms Spring Festival is awesome! We’ve only gone during the week when it’s not so busy, I’ve heard the weekends are pretty packed.
