While we were grocery shopping the other day my son spotted the new Wonder Woman on the side of the Dr Pepper 12-packs. He LOVES super heroes, but being that he is only three his super hero knowledge is still pretty limited.

As I loaded our Walmart cart with Dr Pepper his little eyes inspected the Wonder Woman images. “Girls can be super heroes too, mama” he said, and I agreed that girls could be superheroes as well as boys. “Can moms be superheroes?” he asked, looking up at me curiously. I explained that yes, moms could indeed be super heroes.

“What super powers do moms have?” he asked. I smiled and told him that moms have lots and lots of super powers. Like moving at the speed of light to get a million things done in one single day. And using our mind powers to make little boys eat their veggies.

Later on as we loaded up the car for our weekend at the lake I thought about our conversation and how moms really are like superheroes. I lost my mother when I was young, and though she could never be replaced, I was lucky to have strong women in my family to look up to. When I think of who my real life Wonder Woman would be, I immediately think of my Aunt Angel. She is everything I imagine a modern day Wonder Woman to be.

Wonder Woman Has Super Strength

When it comes to being a mom she exhibits super human powers. I’ve especially come to appreciate this now that I’m a mom. She raised two boys to be strong, successful men and even better, wonderful fathers and husbands. Looking back she seemed to have limitless energy and patience.

I am constantly amazed at how she manages her many roles in life with grace, making it all look effortless. She can host a holiday meal for our entire family without a hint of stress or worry. An amazing meal seems to appear from nowhere. It’s always enough to feed everyone, including the surprise guests who always pop by.

Wonder Woman Possesses Super Speed

I sometimes wonder if she’s really two people in one. How else does one woman do so much? Clearly, she possesses super speed and perhaps even invisibility powers.

Wonder Woman Always Saves the Day

I can’t count the number of times my aunt has saved the day. She was there for me through good and bad times growing up, when I needed her strength and guidance. And when my son was born she was there in a flash, helping to guide me through the first days and weeks as I fumbled into motherhood.

Wonder Woman is smart, strong and always saves the day. She embodies all the same superhero qualities as my aunt Angel. I’m not saying she really is Wonder Woman, but I haven’t seen them both in the same room. I’m just saying…..
