I’m not a morning person. I’ve tried really really really hard to be, it just doesn’t work. I’ve read all the books and tried all the tricks, but I’m still just a blurry, sleepy slug for the first thirty minutes of the day. My child, however is wide-eyed and ready to go every day as soon as the sun starts to trickle in through his window. So I’ve had to adapt and learn ways to make myself hop on board the early bird train so I can be a functional parent and get us out the door on time.

Here are a few things that have made mornings easier and helped me start the day off on the brightside:

Morning Mom Hacks

  1. Start the night before. Before I go to bed each night I make a list of the important stuff I need to knock out in the morning. Anything that requires thought I try to take care of the night before. I pick out what I’m gonna wear and lay it out, choose Brady’s clothes for the day and pack his bag of essentials. Dry cleaning, packages to deliver, anything that needs to be dropped off gets set-out by the door.
  2. Coffee. If you’re a mom, you probably already know this well. My day starts with coffee… and then more coffee. If you are sluggish in the AM, you need a jolt to get your system on track. The coffee comes first. Get a good coffee maker and set the timer so it’s ready and waiting for you when you walk in the kitchen.
  3. Music. I have a wireless speaker that connects to my Spotify playlist of upbeat songs that we jam to in the morning. It helps me distract Brady and puts us both in a good mood. We sing and dance as we get ready and it really makes a big difference in how the whole day goes.
  4. Breakfast. You have to get a good breakfast in. I used to be a breakfast skipper and I didn’t realize it was the reason I was crashing in the afternoon until after I had a child to feed and started eating breakfast everyday. Stock up on foods that are quick and easy to make and take with you if you need to eat on the run. Keep containers ready so you can pop something in the microwave and pack it up to eat in the car.
