Family Christmas picture ideas and inspiration for taking holiday photos you’ll treasure forever. This post is sponsored by Everywhere Agency on behalf of OshKosh B’gosh; however, all thoughts and opinions are my own.
Okay, I have a little bit of an obsession with holiday clothing, especially when it comes to the kids. I’m in love with all things fair isle and my heart starts to sing at the first sight of a reindeer sweater! Tis’ the season for cute kid’s outfits and I couldn’t be more excited to dress the littles up and snap some pics. I’m no professional, but I do love taking pictures. I’ve learned a few tricks when it comes to getting great shots of your kids for the holidays.
Holiday Photo Ideas and Family Pictures Ideas
If you’re looking for inspiration and ideas for your family Christmas card you need to check out Tiny Prints. They have the cutest holiday cards, plus you can get a feel for what style you want to use for your own card. I love browsing their cards just to see what poses and settings really stand-out and grab me. I pin them to a Pinterest board and start making notes for what I want to do for our holiday pics.
Christmas Outfit Ideas
Picking out the perfect Christmas outfits for your children is part of the holiday fun! An outfit for the holiday card, another one for the trip to see Santa and something festive for Christmas dinner with family. OshKosh is one of my favorite places for finding cute kid’s clothes, they have tons of great styles. And OshKosh B’gosh kids fashion is built for play, so it’s comfortable and made to last well through the season.
Matching up kids style is simple once you decide on a color scheme. I love the traditional Christmas reds, festive greens and winter whites. But don’t be afraid to go outside of the norm. Black and white is simple and modern, creams and tans look classic and pretty, you can even coordinate brights for a fun and fresh look.
I’m mad for plaid, so this adorable Baby B’gosh romper was the first thing I put in my shopping cart! I paired it with a fair isle sweater with a flannel for my little guy and a cute cardigan over a sparkly tulle jumper for my niece. Don’t they look adorable! See, kids in cute Christmas outfits ranks up there with puppies and kittens on the cuteness chart. All the feels!
Pull out the Props
Part of setting the scene for snapping cute holiday pics involves picking out a few props. Doesn’t need to be anything fancy, just a few elements that will bring out the feel of the occasion. A little red wagon, a small Christmas tree, a ribbon tied wreath or a set of twinkly lights. This old red wagon was hiding in the basement at the grandparents, a vintage piece of my aunt’s childhood. I threw this blanket over the kid’s big red wagon to give it a cozy, festive feel.
Don’t Focus on Posed Pics
This is the biggest tip and the secret to getting really great shots of your kids you’ll love looking at for years. It’s impossible to get a group of babies and toddlers to sit still and stare at the camera, it’s pretty much a miracle if you capture that grand feat. Instead, let the kids play and have fun and snap away. You’ll be surprised how many sweet moments you’ll catch that you might have overlooked trying to make things perfect. Play a game and get you’re group in a good mood, give them a job to do and then let your camera do the work. Beautiful images are all about finding the right angle that freezes the moment in time. Create a memory, make it fun, get them to laugh and you’ll find that it’s much easier to get a great picture.
Happy holidays! Here’s to making memories and celebrating the season with the ones you love.
