Holiday parties are a chance to invite friends and family into our homes and share in the spirit of the season. With all the wild ideas for themes and elaborate table schemes you’ll find, the one thing that people love most is to feel warm and welcome. Nothing is more memorable than the kindness that is shown in the small, thoughtful things we do for others. It’s the little things that make a great hostess, and I’m sharing a few of them with you…

Holiday Parties, Hosting Tips to Make Guests Feel  Right at Home

  1. Communication. You picked out the prettiest invitation and you’re so excited to send it out, but being a gracious host means going beyond the simple RSVP. Be sure to include any information about your soiree that might be helpful to someone unfamiliar with your home and your area. Details like where to park and any special directions that will help them avoid traffic or getting turned around. If your guests are coming in from out-of-town and staying a few days suggest local spots that you love and think they would enjoy. Send a follow-up email to their RSVP, expressing your excitement to have them as your guest and letting them know you are available should they need any advice or info.
  2. Common essentials. Go shopping and pick up supplies that your guests might need, outside of what you would regularly buy for yourself. On the basic end, things like bottled water, bath toiletries, an extra toothbrush… these are all things that might be forgotten or needed in case of an impromptu overnight. Go a step further if you’re having houseguests. Pick up a few magazines, grab some muffins and pastries they can munch on in the morning or ask what type of wine they like to drink is.
  3. Compliments & conversation pieces. A good host is a gracious host, and gracious people give compliments and make good conversation. How do you do that? Get to know your guests a little more before they arrive. Everyone is on social media these days. Take a minute to browse their page and see what’s going on in their life. What are their kids doing, what is their job, where did they go on vacation recently. Greet them at the door with a genuine compliment and be ready to ask a question that shows you’re interested.
  4. Coffee. Because nearly everyone enjoys a good cup of coffee and it’s an excellent way to bring everyone together and get them talking. Coffee is something you can keep on hand and offer anytime, whether your hosting a holiday party or simply inviting a neighbor over for a morning chat. Every good hostess knows how to make a good cup of coffee effortlessly.

We hosted a few friends for a mix and mingle recently and I set up this coffee bar for everyone to enjoy. I put out some mugs, chocolate & caramel syrups, whipped cream, milk and of course, coffee. Candy canes, peppermint sticks and cute drink stirrers too just for fun. After whipping up the first few drinks our guests totally got the hang of ourNinja Coffee Bar® System and wanted to try it out too! They loved the drinks and loved the system so much several informed me they would be buying one for themselves, and even giving it as a gift. It really is that awesome!
