Fall Activities for Kids - A Painting Pumpkins & Acorns Party

It’s starting to feel like fall around here and I’m so excited! Falling leaves, football, cozy sweaters and PSLs (aka pumpkin spice lattes) are upon us. I thought it would be fun to host a little fall party to get the kids excited and give them something fun to do for the afternoon.

My son is a nature lover and all about exploring the great outdoors. He’s constantly on the lookout for cool rocks, big sticks and bugs of all sorts. Currently, he’s into collecting acorns and we have amassed a pile of them in a bowl on the kitchen table. A pretty picture of painted acorns on Pinterest inspired me to throw a painting party and get the kids together to decorate pumpkins and acorns.

And what goes great with celebrating fall? Caramel apples and cider of course!

Sara, my wonderful friend and fellow blogger mama (check out her blog cookwith5kids.com )offered to help host. She’s an amazing cook so I’m always up for any chance to get in her kitchen. I pulled together all the supplies we would need to set-up some easy party stations. A caramel apple dipping table and some delicious cider for the snack table. Paints, glitter and glue for the kids crafting space. And lots and lots of WaterWipes to clean up the mess!

Setting up the dessert table was a breeze, it honestly only took a few minutes. First, I filled a mini wagon with apples for the centerpiece. You could also use a small crate, cute basket or pretty dish. Then I filled trays with toppings for the apples: chocolate morsels, caramel bits, marshmallows and chocolate candies. Add some caramel dip and sticks and you have a DIY Caramel Apple bar ready to go.

Next up, the decorating station. A little paint, some glitter and glue along with small cups and trays. Plus a cleaning basket for wiping up the mess.

I filled a few brown paper bags with mini pumpkins, paintbrushes and a travel pack of WaterWipes. That way the kids each had their own essentials they could use for decorating.

Party time! My son was first in line for dipping apples, he has a little bit of a sweet tooth. It was so fun to watch the kids making their apple sticks, and even more fun watching them eat them. Messy fun, but isn’t that the best kind. The WaterWipes quickly came in handy for wiping mouths and sticky fingers. I love that WaterWipes are chemical free so I don’t have to worry about using them on my son’s sensitive skin. They only have two ingredients,99.9% pure Irish water and 0.1% grapefruit seed extract. And they are super durable, we use them for everything.

After they raided the DIY candy apple table, the kids were all ready for some painting fun. If you plan on painting with toddlers, be sure to do it outside. And be sure to have tons of wipes for clean up. Oh boy, Brady was ecstatic to get his hands on the paint and glue tubes. Thankfully Sara’s daughter Diane is an AMAZING helper and so great with little kids. She was on top of keeping B from running amuck. “Amuck, amuck, amuck, amuck!” Sorry, I had to. I’m a Hocus Pocus fanatic!

We had so much fun with the fall crafting party and I have some lovely glittering gold acorns that will look perfect in a mason jar on the mantle. Hope you all are getting geared up for fall and enjoying the loveliness of the season changes.
